Virginia Military Institute

Virginia

Historic Replication

AUGUST 19, 2015

Virginia Military Institution was founded in 1839 in Lexington, VA. It was the first state military college in the United States. While the military traditions found at VMI have stayed intact for 170+ years, the structures on campus, more specifically the windows in those structures, have gradually succumbed to father time. In 2005, a large window replacement project began at VMI. Between ‘05-’08, close to 1,000 Quaker windows, all with historically accurate profiles to replicate the originals, were ordered for five major buildings (Nichols, Jackson, Mallory, Cocke and Kilbourne Halls) and one secondary building on the institute grounds.

Quaker products used for this multi-million dollar venture included our H400 Series aluminum casement and picture window, K300 Series aluminum casement and picture window, and various historical pannings and accessories.
